Sie wählt dazu für jede Videoszene in Echtzeit aus sechs H.264-Codecs die Variante mit der stärksten Kompression aus. Das System nutzt den Cell-Prozessor, der unter anderem in Supercomputern und in der Playstation 3 eingesetzt wird. Ebenfalls mit dem Cell-Prozessor arbeitet ein Tagging-System auf Basis desMPEG-7-Formats, das vollautomatisch Videoszenen mit Metadaten versieht. Der hohe Aufwand für die manuelle Verschlagwortung reduziert sich dabei um bis zu 95 Prozent.
Codecsys is an application which reduces HDTV-signal bandwidth by between 50 and 80 per cent. Each video scene is sent through six H.264-codecs, the system choosing on-the-fly the codec with the highest compression rate. Codecsys relies on the Cell-chip found in supercomputers as well as in Sony's Playstation 3. The Cell-chip uses an MPEG-7-based video tagging system to create metadata for video clips. Compared with manual indexing, time and effort are reduced by up to 95 percent.
