The European Conference of Postal & Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) has developed a framework for operating so called “white space devices” in the television bands, among them a database-based method. This method, however, requires time-consuming Monte Carlo simulation. This paper introduces a hybrid approach which reduces the complexity to a reasonable level. Results are presented and in addition a linear approximation is made to provide further insight. Finally further simplifi cations are made to give an estimation of the total amount of television white spaces available for use by white space devices.
Georg Schuberth: Die CEPT hat Verfahren für den Betrieb von „White Space Devices“ (WSD) innerhalb der Rundfunkbänder erarbeitet; eine datenbankgestützte Variante baut dabei auf aufwendigen Monte-Carlo-Berechnungen auf. Mit einem hybriden Ansatz kann der Aufwand auf ein akzeptables und praxistaugliches Maß reduziert werden. Die Methode wurde angewandt, um die lokal zulässige Leistung für White-Space-Devices zu berechnen. Über einen linearen Ansatz können weitere Erkenntnisse zum Betrieb von WSD gewonnen werden. Abschließend werden zusätzliche vereinfachende Annahmen getroffen, um eine Abschätzung über die Menge an verfügbaren White-Spaces zu bekommen.
