Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) is the public broadcasting authority for Bavaria and one of the nine regional broadcasting members of Germany's ARD radio and television network. Among the key facilities built into BR's new broadcast centre is one of the world's largest archive management systems, with capacity scalable beyond a petabyte of data. Designed to provide streamlined storage and access to material for production, with reliable and redundant archiving for the broadcaster's library of material stretching back over more than 50 years, the system uses Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive to facilitate content storage and protection. The digitization of this material will preserve it for posterity and reduce the cost of maintaining the archives, while providing much greater flexibility of access for use in future productions.
Wolfgang Englmaier: Der Bayerische Rundfunk (BR) ist eine von neun regionalen Sendeanstalten der ARD. Das TV-Progamm des BR wird im neuen Sendezentrum Freimann (SZFM) in München produziert und von dort auch ausgestrahlt. Das Sendezentrum arbeitet in weiten Teilen bandlos und umfasst vier Sendeabwicklungen und einen nach dem neuesten Stand der Technik eingerichteten digitalen Produktions- und Archivbereich. Von dort werden der Hauptkanal („Bayerisches Fernsehen“) und der Bildungskanal „BR alpha“ gesendet. Darüber hinaus produziert der BR Sendungen und ganze Programmbeiträge für das Gemeinschaftsprogramm „Das Erste“ der ARD.
