Many are afraid of it, but we can’t do without it: technical approval of sound and vision has been one the most important elements of quality control since the early days of film and TV production. In this article, the author discusses some of the audio-related quality criteria involved in meeting recommended practices at ARD, ZDF, ORF and other broadcasters. These range from track assignment over „Dolby E frame alignment“ to audio levels and Dolby metadata. Automated tools for quality control and audio signal correction will be discussed.
