Optical signal transmission in conjunction with the „Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing“ (CWDM) enables the transport of 18 channels, each with a payload of 3 Gbit/s, over one fibre. Each channel is totally separate from the others in terms of frequency, synchronisation, and transmission direction and there is no interference with other fibres. The total capacity on a single fibre connection can reach 54 Gbit/s. The contribution explains the CWDM technology in detail.

Die einzelnen Kanäle sind dabei in allen Aspekten (Frequenz, Synchronisation, sogar in der Übertragungsrichtung) vollkommen unabhängig voneinander und beeinflussen sich nicht gegenseitig.
