Microservices are changing information technologies deeply – one can say they are about to revolutionize IT. Microservices and Microservice Architecture are changing the development, the deployment as well as continuous operation of software solutions. Microservice have the potential of deeply impacting the media area as well. The contribution presents Microservices and Microservice architectures in the first part. The second part describes the new possibilities that Microservices are providing in software development, automated installation and configuration as well as operation. In the third part we will try to estimate the possibilities, the impact and challenges of Microservices in the media area.

Die Veränderungen durch Microservices und Microservice-Architekturen reichen dabei von der Entwicklung über die Installation bis hin zu Betrieb von Software-Lösungen. Microservice- Architekturen haben das Potential, den Einsatz von Software auch im Medienbereich nachhaltig zu verändern. Der Beitrag stellt im ersten Teil die Microservices und die Microservice-Architektur vor. Im zweiten Teil werden die neuen Möglichkeiten behandelt, die die Microservices in der Software- Entwicklung, in der automatisierten Installation und Konfiguration und im Betrieb bieten. Der dritte Teil versucht, die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten, Auswirkungen und Herausforderungen von Microservices im Medienbereich abzuschätzen.
