The use of IP video as a replacement for traditional infrastructures such as SDI and satellite has been a constant topic in the industry for some time. Unfortunately, broadcast-specific hardware like FPGA still dominates the discussion. The present article analyses the benefits and challenges of using standard x86 IT devices to create and process compressed and uncompressed IP video.
