The HbbTV based application Miner – day with Andy has shown the feasibility of 360° streaming for smart TVs by enabling changing perspectives. This 360° streaming technique with the cloudbased 360° video playout from Fraunhofer FOKUS currently represents the state-of-the-art for use on smart TVs. While most 360° content is typically used with VR-displays or YouTube, it can also be ported to smart TVs based on the HbbTV standard. Thus existing 360° content can be exploited for a wider audience with reasonable effort. Soon after WDR offered this 360° report, ZDF also applied the Fraunhofer FOKUS solution for Biathlon World Cup in January 2019 and for the entertainment show “Fernsehgarten” in Mai 2019. Thus users have gathered more experience and 360° on smart TVs has become more familiar to the audience.
Christian Klöckner; Stephan Steglich; Louay Bassbouss: Die HbbTV-basierte Applikation „Kumpel-Tag mit Andy“ hat die Machbarkeit von 360°-Perspektivwechseln auf Smart-TVs gezeigt. Aktuell stellt dieses 360°-Streaming-Verfahren mit dem Cloud-basierten 360°-Video- Playout von Fraunhofer FOKUS1) den Stand der Technik zur Nutzung auf Smart-TVs dar. Prinzipiell können 360°-Inhalte nicht nur für VR-typische Endgeräte oder YouTube genutzt werden, sondern auch auf Smart-TVs, die den HbbTV-Standard unterstützen. Bereits vorhandene Produktionen lassen sich so mit überschaubarem Aufwand für weitere Nutzerkreise erschließen. Nachdem die 360°-Reportage „Kumpel-Tag mit Andy“ Ende 2018 angeboten wurde, setzte das ZDF den Biathlon-Wettkampf 2) und die Unterhaltungssendung „Fernsehgarten“ 3) mit derselben Technik von FOKUS im Januar und Mai 2019 um. Damit hat die Lernkurve bei TV-Nutzern eingesetzt und der Bekanntheitsgrad ist gestiegen.
