In a home environment, it is now normal for your favourite series to run as a digital video stream on your TV. It is also nothing new to pair a smartphone with a TV in order to be able to transfer pictures or video clips directly to it. Video games can also be easily streamed to a living room with extremely inexpensive small black boxes. And this can even be done via the Internet! What is it that makes AV over IP, the transmission of audio and video over the Internet protocol, i.e. the IT network, so interesting?
