Thinking Big – Zurich University of the Arts’ New Campus

Angela Bünger: At the very beginning, there was one big idea – to create a place for all fields of art and design – from music and dance to film, media and beyond – under one roof. In summer 2014, this idea became a reality for the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) which then moved from a total of 35 individual locations to its new campus at the Toni-Areal in the western part of Zurich, Switzerland. The huge complex of buildings from the 1970s served for the industrial production of dairy products until 1999. The modification of the whole complex to use it as a campus for the 2,500 students of one of Europe’s leading universities for the arts amounted to around 100 million Swiss francs.
