Solving the challenge of playback of hi‐bitrate Mezzanine files remotely

Kurzfassung des Vortrags

Working remotely through the pandemic has brought its challenges, one of those challenges has been achieving low latency playback of hi-bitrate mezzanine media files when working remotely.  These media files are normally stored on-premise (in the office), so media professionals have to either wait significant amounts of time to download these large files over slow VPN connections or have to generate proxy versions.  In additional to the playback of file on-premise, there has been a strategic shift in the industry, where files are now stored in the Cloud object based storage, this has its advantage however if a user wishes to download the file and play it, they have to pay restrictive egress costs.

Disney UK, utilise cloud storage to store their content and needed a way to enable there employees to view this content from their home offices. In addition to frame accurate playback, they also need the ability to look at technical metadata of the media, choose which audio channel/track they wish to listen to, enabling them to visually QC a file.

Telestream has developed a solution that meets all these requirements. High resolution and high bit rate media files can be reviewed from home while connected to a corporate VPN with  80-90% bit rate reduction.
