During the development of Dolby Surround 7.1, the researchers investigated the future of cinema sound. They equipped several dubbing theatres and cinemas with various speaker configurations in order to determine which speaker locations were preferable from a contentcreator’s point of view, and what can realistically be installed in commercial theatres. This contribution shows the results of this development.
Hubert Henle: Bereits während der Entwicklung von 7.1-Surround-Ton wurde bei Dolby ein Forschungsprogramm aufgelegt, um ein neues Audioformat zu entwickeln. Im Rahmen des Programms wurden Mischstudios und Kinos mit verschiedenen Lautsprecherkonfigurationen ausgestattet. Ziel war es zu untersuchen, welche Lautsprecherpositionen aus kreativer Sicht wünschenswert sind und gleichzeitig auch die Aussicht auf Installation in kommerziellen Kinos haben. Im Beitrag wird das Resultat der Entwicklung vorgestellt.
