The Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands) and IBM have developed DIAS, a long-term achive that fullfils the requirements of preserving digital content for at least 100 years. At the moment most of the digital collection is only accessible from inside the computers in the KB reading rooms. The solution is rendered future proof and flexible through the incorporation of open standards such as OAIS and together with appropriate hardware and software. Implementation and further development are being coordinated within the framework of 'kopal' (Co-operative development of a long-term digital information archive). The project in general is described in addition to a general overview of archiving technology.
Stefanie Urbicht: Die Koninklijke Bibliotheek und IBM haben mit „DIAS“ ein Langzeitarchiv entwickelt, das den Anforderungen einer langfristig Vorhaltung von digitalen Inhalten über die nächsten 100 Jahre sowie deren ständige Verfügbarkeit in einem internationalen Kontext gerecht wird. Durch die Einbindung von offenen Standards wie OAIS sowie Hard- und Software-Komponenten ist die Lösung zukunftsfähig und flexibel, was die Implementierung und Weiterentwicklung im aktuellen kopal-Projekt beweisen. Neben einem allgemeinen Einblick in die Archivtechnik wird zudem das Gesamtprojekt vorgestellt.
