Simon Thompson
Simon has worked at BBC Research & Development for 17 years most recently researching workflows for High Dynamic Range video production and has worked on programmes including the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and The Royal Wedding. Former projects include RF spectrum management, RF transmission design, additional services for DVB broadcasts and OJEC procurements for cameras and the New Broadcasting House newsroom and video workflow optimisation.

Simon is currently Chair of the European Broadcasting Union Video Systems group, International Telecommunication Union Research Group 24, World Wide Web Consortium Media Group and the Digital Television Group’s Production Technology group. He is also on the Editor Board for the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ Motion Imaging Journal.
Simon holds a Master of Engineering degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton and is a Chartered Engineer.

Live UHDTV with HDR is a relatively new production technique that is beginning to become widely used. In this presentation, we'll initially present the new terms used and examine the diverse broadcaster needs. We'll look at the workflows of a number of broadcasters - how they produce UHDTV and better HD. We'll then look at how the EBU is working on standards to allow UHDTV production and is working to formalise workflows to allow production and programme exchange of both UHDTV and HDTV with minimal extra requirements.
